10:15-10:30am   Orientation: Publicolor, Hudson Square Properties + UPS will provide overview of project and program

10:30am                Volunteers will be assigned painting areas and provided instructions and demonstration on painting

11:00am                 Painting

12:00–12:30pm   Lunch Break and paint drying time

1:30-2:00pm        Painting resumes – second coat

2:30pm                   Begin clean up

3:00pm                  Volunteer survey and dismissal

Please be patient as we will have as many as 100 volunteers joining us given the scale of the project.

Frequently asked questions:

What do I wear? Please wear painting clothes and shoes. We use non-toxic latex paint that will wash out of your hair and skin but not out of your clothes. Gloves will be on site if you wish to use them.

Where will I be painting? 522 Greenwich Street. You will see signs for volunteer check in. Once you’ve checked in, you will be given a dedicated gate that you, along with a few other volunteers, will paint together.

How do I get there? The best way is to google the destination for public transportation options, and to re-check the day of for any changes/delays (!)

What about lunch? Breakfast refreshments, water, and lunch will be provided on site.

Do I need to know how to paint? Not at all. The students and staff will teach you everything you need to know.

Can I bring my kids? Yes! Ideally children 12 yrs.+ and chaperoned by an adult while they paint are invited to paint. Please register them separately and email/call Jessica Gillota to let her know the age of your children and how many will join us. We will ensure that they have a good experience and work to group children together.

Can I use my cell phone? We ask that volunteers DO NOT use their cell phones while volunteering with Publicolor. We’re teaching our students good work habits, which include paying constant attention to one’s work.  We provide a room for your belongings but please leave unneeded valuables at home.

Is photographing allowed? Yes. Please try to use newly color-painted walls as backdrop instead of primed-for-paint walls.

Who do I report to? When you arrive at 522 Greenwich Street there will be signs for Volunteer check in. Please follow the signs and once we have done orientation, you will be given a group leader.

Publicolor staff will be in colorful Publicolor t-shirts and you can ask any of us for help!
